The No Interest Loans Scheme (NILS) provides individuals and families on low incomes across Australia with access to safe, fair and affordable credit. There are no fees, interest or charges. Repayments are set up at an affordable amount over 12 to 18 months. It’s important to note that a NILS loan is not a payday loan or a bank loan.
Loans are between $300 and $1,200 and may include:
- fridges and freezers
- washing machines and dryers
- electrical goods such as TVs.
Loans may also include:
- educational essentials such as computers and text books
- car-related expenses
- some dental and medical services
- some other items as requested.
To be eligible for NILS you must:
- have a Health Care Card; or
- earn less than $45,000 a year (after tax);
- have lived in your current residence for a minimum of three months;
- have a willingness and capacity to repay the loan.
