To be eligible for free removal, you must:

Homeowners, landlords, renters and businesses are eligible to apply. Check the terms and conditions on the ActewAGL website.
The Fridge BuyBack program is available to Australian Capital Territory households and businesses. You don’t have to be an ActewAGL electricity account holder to participate.
There is no limit to the amount of eligible fridges or freezers collected from a residential property, multiple $30 rebates can apply.
There is a limit of three eligible fridges or freezers collected from business property, up to three $30 rebates can apply.
If it’s estimated to take more than 15 minutes to remove the fridge or freezer or involves 21 steps or more, it’s not eligible for free removal or the $30 rebate. Removal can still be arranged but at a cost to the resident or business.
Before removal, the resident or business is responsible for ensuring the fridge or freezer is:
- drained of any water, including inside the appliance and the drip tray.
Where arrangements have been made to leave the fridge or freezer outside for collection, it needs to be made safe so children cannot get inside. You can either remove the door/s or secure the door/s using industrial-grade tape or rope.
A number of other requirements apply, further information is available on the ActewAGL website.
