The Canberra Plant Selector makes it easier for Australian Capital Territory residents to choose plants that are suited to their local soil and weather conditions.
By being aware of the growth habit, sun, shade, frost tolerances and water requirements of plants you can choose plants suited to your garden and save water without restricting the choice of garden design.
To decide on which plants are best suited to your local soil and weather conditions, enter the required information into the plant selector. You can select plants by common or botanical name, or you can search for a list of plants with specific characteristics.
The plant selector results will provide information including:
- a plant’s botanical and common names
- a description and photo of the plant
- it’s origin, uses and preferred position
- a scale image showing its size
- sun and shade tolerance
- frost tolerance
- soil types
- watering needs.
Make sure you understand the plant selector information on the ACT Government website. For more information, call Canberra Connect on 13 22 81.
