Install water-efficient showerheads
Your shower can be one of the biggest users of water in your home. If you're using an older style showerhead, you could be using more water than you need to. Installing an efficient showerhead can save you up to 20 litres of water a minute.

Water-efficient showerheads restrict the amount of water coming through and provide you with a satisfying shower.
The Water Efficiency Labelling and Standards (WELS) scheme scheme product search helps you to compare the efficiency and flow rate of different showerheads before you buy a new one.
A WELS 4-star rated showerhead can use as little as 5 litres per minute compared to an inefficient showerhead which can use up to 25 litres of water per minute.
Some water authorities offer free water-efficient showerheads in exchange for your old showerhead. Check with your local water authority to see if they're offering free water-efficient showerheads.
Installing a water-efficient showerhead can be easy depending on your plumbing. It should only take a few minutes for a plumber or handy person.
If you're doing it yourself, make sure you have the:
- correct instructions
- mains water supply turned off if necessary
- correct plumber's thread seal tape (also known as PTFE or Teflon tape).
